KAJIAN AIR ASAM DISEKITAR SINGKAPAN (OUTCROP) BATUBARA DI KOTA BALIKPAPAN

Abstract


ABSTRAK

 

Kandungan Mineral Pyrite (FeS2) pada Batubara dan Litologi Bagian Roof dan Floor Lapisan Batubara (Potential Acid Forming) apabila berada diatas muka air tanah (Water table) akan mengalami oksidasi dan apabila tercuci oleh air hujan atau air infiltrasi akan berpotensi membentuk air asam. Singkapan Batubara yang muncul dipermukaan baik yang tersingkap secara alami ataupun tersingkap akibat aktivitas penggalian mempunyai dampat penurunan pH air permukaan maupun air tanah disekitarnya. Hasil pengambilan sample air dekat dengan singkapan batu bara di beberapa tempat di Kota Balikpapan menunjukan pH yang cukup rendah yang dapat membahayakan kesehatan maupun berpotensi merusak barang-barang logam yang kontak dengan air tersebut. Diperlukan upaya pengolahan (treatment) untuk menetralkan air sebelum air tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai air untuk kebutuhan domestic.

ABSTRACT

 

Pyrites Contents in coal beds and roof and floor lithology of coal seams, which is known as Potential Acid Forming (PAF).  When they are located above the water table will decompose or oxidated and will be leached by rain water or infiltration water to form acid water (Acid mining drainage).  Coal Outcrops that appear in the surface caused by natural processes or excavation activities have impact to decrease pH both of surface water and groundwater in its vicinity. Results of water sampling close to coal outcrops in several place in Balikpapan City showing low pH which could jeopardize health and metal goods. Its needed to do treatment efforts in order to neutralize that water before utilizing as domestic needs.
