Pendidikan berkualitas adalah pendidikan yang menghasilkan lulusan yang memilki kognitif tinggi,budi pekerti yang baik, jujur dan bertakwa. Untuk mewujudkan tujuan pendidikan tersebut , perlu dikembangkan berbagai model pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan minat belajar mahasiswa.Masalah pokok penelitian ini adalah bagaimana upaya meningkatkan motivasi dan partisipasi mahasiswa dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar matematika di kelas dan  meningkatkan kreatifitas mahasiswa dalam menemukan konsep dan memecahkan masalah.Untuk itu ditawarkan solusi bagi pemecahan masalah tersebut dengan pembelajaran menggunakan metode kooperatif dengan pendekatan Think-Pair-Share yang penekanannya pada aktifitas individu dan kelompok. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah memperoleh strategi pembelajaran yang baik dan inovatif secara berkelanjutan sehingga meningkatkan mutu hasil pembelajaran yang baik dan inovatif secara berkelanjutan sehingga meningkatkan mutu hasil pembelajaran. Berdasarkan kajian pustaka tersebut, maka hipotesis tindakan dalam penelitian ini dapat dirumuskan: dengan metode pembelajaran kooperatif dengan pendekatan Think-Pair-Share maka motivasi, partisipasi dan kualitas hasil belajar mahasiswa pada mata kuliah matematika dasar di program studi teknik elektronika Politeknik Balikpapan,dapat ditingkatkan. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan metode penelitian tindakan kelas, yang terdiri empat tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan , observasi dan refleksi.Penelitian ini dilakukan pada mahasiswa semester ganjil (satu)  2009/20010 program studi teknik elektronika selama 3 bulan.Faktor yang diteliti adalah mahasiswa dan proses pembelajaran.

Quality education is education that produce graduates who have high cognitive, good manners, honest and cautious. To realize the goal of education is have developed various models of learning can increase student interest in learning. This research problem is how can efforts to increase motivation and student participation in learning activities mathematics in the classroom and enhance the creativity of students in discovering the concepts and solve problems. For that offered solutions for solving the problem by using the methods of cooperative learning ( Think – Pair – Share ) emphasis on the activities of individuals and groups. The purpose of this study is obtain good learning strategies and innovative sustainable thus improving the quality of learning outcomes. Based on the literature review is the hypothesis of this research action can be formulated : cooperative learning methods (TPS) motivation, participation and quality of student learning outcomes the basic mathematic courses in electronics engineering courses Polikteknik Balikpapan, can be improved. Research conducted by the research methods class action, consists of four phases, namely planning, implementation of the action, observation and reflection. Research is done on a student semester 2009/2010 odd electronics engineering course for 3 months. Factors studied were students and the learning process. Researchers acting as teachers and observers. Classroom action research was conducted with 3 cycles. Action results in a cycle of activity, motivation, creativity and learning outcomes in the evaluation as a material consideration in planning further action. While the indicators of the quality the average value of tests/quizzes, assignments and test scores.
