Abstract

ABSTRACT

Greenhouse gas emissions in Balikpapan City are still increasing every year. Balikpapan population growth continues to increase over time which is the main cause of the increase in green house gas emissions. Some of the sectors that contribute the most to greenhouse gas emissions in Balikpapan are the waste sector (liquid waste sub-sector). Aerobic treatment does not produce greenhouse gas emissions but produces sludge that must be disposed of by aerobic digestion, land treatment or incineration. Liquid waste is not collected but is treated locally, such as septic tanks for domestic liquid waste and IPAL (Wastewater Treatment Plant) for industrial liquid waste, is also a source of greenhouse gas emissions. This study will explain the efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through mitigation actions that have been implemented in Balikpapan City and determine the importance of reducing the amount of CO2 emissions produced. Based on the research results, the mitigation actions implemented have resulted in a % reduction.

Keywords: greenhouse gases, liquid waste, reduced emissions
