Abstract


EVALUATION OF URBAN TRANSPORTATION PERFORMANCE BASED ON QUANTITY SERVICE IN BALIKPAPAN

Ownership of private vehicles is increasing while urban transport has decreased the number of passengers. The decline of urban transport’s passengers make imbalance between demand supply. There are several factors that influence the decreasing of public interest in using urban transportation, one of them is the level of service provided still lacking. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the operational performance and services to formulate recommendations related to urban transport performance improvement. The method for this research use calculation of public transportation performance analysis and index of accessibility. The value of accessibility urban transport in Balikpapan is moderate with a value of 4 in the downtown area while low accessibility with a value of 3 is in the suburbs. This proves that urban transport is not easy to reach by the community. The condition of load factor, availability of transportation and infrastructure is a variable of low value so that it can be an evaluation material. The value of load factor for urban transport to the outskirts is very high reaching 98% on route 8 and 57% on route 7 is not proportional to the availability of urban transport where based on the evaluation results are still less where the percentage of transport that operates less than 80% each unit time circulation.
